The PCF8536AT/1Y generates drive signals for multiplexed LCDs with up to 8 backplanes and 44 segments, allowing for complex graphics or up to 40 alphanumeric characters. Communication is facilitated via a 400 kHz I2C-bus interface, with overhead minimized by an auto-incrementing display RAM. Beyond display driving, it features an on-chip PWM controller with six independent channels, each offering 128-level resolution. This allows for precise control of two RGB LED controllers, capable of generating over 2 million colors for backlight illumination. Optimized for reliability, it is manufactured in a silicon gate CMOS process and is qualified for automotive environments.Ê
